We're actively hiring across the following departments: Sales, Commercialization, Data, Design, Engineering, Finance & Admin, Marketing, Operations, and Research.

Our frontend teams use primarily Javascript and React, & our backend teams use primarily Python across a mix of frameworks. We are cloud-native, running our apps on Kubernetes and AWS, using Gitlab for our CI/CD platform. Our Quality Engineering department is focused on writing automation in Selenium using Javascript and our Data Engineering department works with data warehouses like Snowflake and BI tools like Looker.

About this role

INTRODUCTION

The Zebra is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer II to help support our Engineering team. The primary role of this person is to continuously improve The Zebra’s SRE program by implementing tools and processes to move our applications and service up the Service Reliability Hierarchy. The SRE enables and inspires development teams to support their applications in the production environment by improving observability, measuring reliability, and training teams in incident response.

Our team is passionate about working together to solve interesting problems with technical solutions--and having fun doing it. With a team split between Austin and Africa, we know from experience the importance of diversity within Engineering teams, and we work constantly to ensure everyone has a voice and feels valued. Collaboration is key to our success.

We’re in the process of repositioning the company to support a remote workforce. Like many companies, pre-COVID we weren’t set-up this way. We’ve recently made the shift to from an in-office organization to a hybrid model (supporting employee work either fully remote, a mix of in-office and WFH, or solely working in-office). While we are open to remote work across the contingent US, we are still in the process of building our systems to support work in all states. We’re excited to broaden our talent reach across the US! WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Work with development teams to improve the reliability of their applications
  • Collaborate with teammates to improve SRE processes and tools at The Zebra
  • Communicate status of support issues from alert acknowledgment to close out
  • Participate in a regular on-call rotation to support the infrastructure 24/7
  • Achieve and maintain expected productivity levels with minimal supervision
  • Automate all the things by identifying, owning, collaborating, and driving new or further automation to enhance the consistent stability of the environment
  • Evaluate, diagnose and resolve issues with AWS settings, Kubernetes configuration and Gitlab deploy pipeline setup
  • Work closely with other engineers, designers and Engineering Leadership to improve developer environment utilities and improve development and deployment tools
  • Improve and scale the existing products and tools
  • Maintain and improve best practices for system logging, monitoring, health checks, and incident response
  • Develop Service Level Indicators/Objectives to accurately measure service reliability
  • Conduct monthly reviews with product teams

REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of cloud hosting and administration
  • 3+ years of supporting production level applications
  • Exceptional and demonstrable Site Reliability experience
  • A passion for problem solving with strong analytical capabilities
  • A desire to follow and advocate exceptional software engineering processes
  • Comfortable with Linux/Unix command line
  • Know at least one of high level object based programming language such as Python, Ruby, Javascript, C++, C#, or Go at an intermediate level
